Help Give Your Child the Gift of a Bright Future

We understand that your child relies on their eyesight for a lot of things as they grow. However, your child may not be able to easily let you know if they are experiencing issues with their eyes or vision, so having them professionally examined at least once per year is essential.

If your child is having trouble seeing or develops an eye condition that goes untreated, it may inhibit their development, affect their performance in school, or even lead to permanent visual damage.

To help you give your child a bright future, we offer comprehensive pediatric exams that will assess your child’s vision and general eye health and work with you to keep their eyes happy and healthy.

When to Make an Appointment

There are certain points during childhood when you should bring your child in to have an eye exam. If you have any concerns, seek eye care early. Some things to look out for are listed below. Before they enter kindergarten, your child should have a comprehensive eye exam.  Once your child is in school, you should be taking them for eye exams annually.

These assessments will help to get your child ready for school, ensuring they have the proper tools and treatments to help them succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Things to Look For

When children are very young, they often aren’t able to articulate vision loss or health problems, so keeping a watchful eye for signs they may need treatment is imperative to catch issues as early as possible.

At various stages of life, there are some signs of trouble you should keep an eye out for:

Infancy

Very early in life, babies may exhibit symptoms they are developing eye problems.

If your child is unable to follow objects as they move or hold steady eye contact, you should have your optometrist examine them as soon as possible. Additionally, your baby’s eyes may appear misaligned occasionally, but if it continues past 4 months of age, it may indicate an issue.

Preschool Age

You may notice your child favoring one eye over the other, sitting too close to the tv,

or holding books and objects close to their face. These behaviors may point to your child suffering from vision problems, and it is best to take them in for an exam.

School Age

As your child grows, they will be able to explain their vision better

and let you know about any vision problems they may develop. If your child begins to have problems at school, complains about headaches, or experiences difficulty reading, please take them to the optometrist as soon as possible.
